Special Edition: My Top Five Favorite Anime of All Time
Today, I’m going to take a step away from my usual routine of reviews. This is mostly because I’ve not finished writing my next review. So, the next regular review will appear on Tuesday. Instead, today I’m going to go through my top five favorite anime of all time. And instead of making just a list of anime, I’ll be letting you know what merits put these at the top of my list. If I’ve not reviewed it so far, you can trust that I will visit these anime in the future. So, without further ado, I present my top 5 anime.
5) Sailor Moon:Yes, I know that this series was drawn for children. Little girls none-the-less. But, I can’t help but consider this one of my favorite animes. Sailor Moon was the first anime series I ever watched, which automatically makes it stand out in my mind. But, beyond that, it’s the story of a socially akward teenager who is able to accomplish things bigger than herself through the power of friendship. That makes it A-OK in my book.
4)Air Gears: High speed rollerblade chases and races. High powered fights. Rollerblading gangs. It doesn’t get any stranger than Air Gears. But, they make it work.Even though the premise seems a little odd, the writers never back down on the idea that this is real and has every potential to exist. For that, I give them kudos.
3)Blue Seed: The art in this series is not the best. It definitely could have used a LOT of work. So, why is this series number 3? Substance. Pure and simple. The writers of Blue Seed took a simple concept and executed it flawlessly. I think this is one of the few anime series that I’ve seen that finds that perfect balance of awesome action sequences with huge explosions and effortless storyline. Bravo, Blue Seed. Bravo.
2)Bleach: This is one of the few times that an anime with less story than action will top my lists. Now, I’m not saying that Bleach has no storyline. Far from it. But, the action sequences, fights, and plethora of unique abilities really make this anime what it is. And, more importantly, it does all this without succumbing to the DBZ style of anime where everyone just looks at each other for ten episodes exhuding manliness until one of them dies.
1) Neon Genesis Evangelion: Despite the fact that I’ve gotten a lot of flak about this being my favorite anime, this still remains at the top of my list. You just can’t beat giant robots fighting giant aliens. And then, combine that action with the philisophical and religious views (which yes, I know the writers didn’t mean anything by them) present in the series and you’ve got a masterpiece. I’ve yet to find an anime that could top this one, but I’m open. Best of luck anime companies.
And that’s it. My top five favorite anime. As I said, these are far from full reviews of these series, and I have every intention of giving each of them the attention they all deserve. But, that’s it for this week. Be sure to check back in on Monday for the Weekly Cross-Comparrison.
